(1.400 kms)
Pereira – Cabo de la Vela – Punta Gallinas – Pereira: 90% asfalto, 10 % off road (arena). (2.700 kms).
(400 kms).
Pereira – Murillo – Armero – Pereira: 70% asfalto, 30% off road (400 kms).

Like everything in life, to talk about something first of all it is necessary to know and try it thoroughly, so on our page we are not very friendly of the tests of handling of a couple of hours and for that reason almost always we reject them or we do them But without writing a review because so little time does not provide enough tools to objectively think of a product; That is why we had taken our time to do this review of Metzeler Karoo 3 tires, long time and many kms in many conditions, here are some trips with these tires:
Pereira – Cañón del Pato – Cordillera Blanca en Perú: 90% asphalt, 10% off road (6.000 kms).
Pereira – Purace – Mocoa – Trampolín de la Muerte – Pereira: 80% asphalt, 20% off road. (1.400 kms)
Pereira – Cabo de la Vela – Punta Gallinas – Pereira: 90% asphalt, 10 % off road (arena). (2.700 kms).
(400 kms).
Pereira – Murillo – Armero – Pereira: 70% asphalt, 30% off road (400 kms).
The elephant brand launches in 2013 the Karoo 3 tires, some on / off covers intended for adventure travelers of medium and long distances with a lot of off road content, at first sight seems to be a tire much more focused to the off by its aggressive carving In the tread, which for its innovative geometry ensures excellent traction and penetration in soft terrain (for this reason these tires seem exceptional for driving in sand), but if you look at the sides you can see some tacos closer to each other Which ensures more contact surface for asphalt driving, which is why the excellent behavior on the pavement which you do not believe until the tests, since they allow to lay down with much confidence in curves, more than allowed by other dual purpose tires , To the point of being able to scrape the feet feet on our Tiger 800 XCX which is quite high.
Asphalt driving is a tire that surprises by the confidence it generates, like any tire with this type of work, vibrates a little at low speeds, before 20 km / h and at high speeds, at over 130 km / h, More than enough speed for the type of steering to which it is focused is covered; In asphalt behaves in a suitable way on wet surface, we say suitable for the type of tire we talk about as many tend to compare it with other supposedly dual purpose tires such as Continental TKC 70 and Michelin’s Anakee 3, a comparison that we do not consider adequate As the latter two are covered with more focus on that off.
In off road, it is a tire that generates a lot of confidence, regardless of the terrain, however irregular we find it, we know with a certain percentage of certainty how the bike will behave, therefore we will not feel strangers in driving As long as we carry them with the proper air pressure (20 pounds forward, 24 back is how we use them); This is due to the structure of the rim and the flexibility of its compounds which allows better adaptation, assimilation and absorption in irregular terrain leading to a great capacity of damping.
As for the duration, we are surprised that where the tire is worn most is on off surfaces with a high content of rocks, since by its soft compound, tend to suffer lacerations in their taxiways, wear that is not so premature on asphalt , Giving us a combined duration of off and on of more than 11 thousand kms (The ones we use in our trip to Peru) with fully loaded motorcycle, top suitcase and side cases, more than enough duration compared to similar tires Which cost almost twice as much as the HEIDENAU K60 and TKC 80 from Continental.
CONCLUSION: Being already in use of the third set of Karoo 3 and having used Continental TKC 80 and HEIDENAU K76 (the latter 60% on and 40% off) without a doubt our choice is the elephant brand, the Metzeler offer more versatility, better Cost-benefit ratio and better duration, it is certainly a tire that honors your vocation on / off, what better tires to off? Undoubtedly, what are there for pavement ?, Of course, but we have tried some that on both surfaces behave to the height, so far we do not know.
